Scientists are investigating the benefits of a water softener in terms of alleviating eczema symptoms in young children, reports the team at Green Water Technologies. In a study by the U.S. Department of Health, researchers seek to understand the differing effects of soft (conditioned) and hard (unconditioned) water on a person’s skin. Green Water Technologies notes that eczema has been consistently found in areas where hard (unconditioned) water is present. Eczema typically occurs on the neck, face, and the insides of ankles, knees and elbows. Affected areas often appear scaly, thickened and dry.
